EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion receive sufficient spiritual, theological, and practical preparation to fulfill their role with knowledge and reverence. To become an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion one must attend one of the training sessions held each year.  All ministers of Holy Communion should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine.


LECTORS

The ministry of Proclaiming the Word is another vital ministry of the liturgy.  Proclaiming the scriptures carefully and prayerfully helps those celebrating the Eucharist recognize that God has been with us from the beginning, is with us now, and will be with us for all time.  All confirmed Catholics are welcome to serve in this ministry.


SACRISTANS

CONTACT PERSON –  Corine Jones 

At Sacred Heart Parish the sacristans oversees and keep in good order the worship space (including the sanctuary, the nave, and the gathering area) and the sacristy. They must have a reverence for the sanctuary and for all articles and sacred vessels used in worship and liturgical activities. The sacristan is the person who is appointed to be available to prepare everything needed for the liturgy.

The bible says…"make a joyful noise unto the Lord".  Here at Sacred Heart, we have dedicated parishioners who give of their time and talent to enhance the liturgy and give glory to God.   Music at each mass is provided by one of four choirs:  Youth Choir, Gospel Choir, and Male Choir.  If you would like to share the talent God gave you through song, consider joining one of the choirs.

 


ALTAR SERVERS

Boys and girls who have made their First Communion can assist at the Altar.  This is a wonderful way for youth to respond to God's call to service and a special privilege to be so close to the Altar of Consecration.  Anyone wishing to become an altar server must attend a training session.

 

 

BEREAVEMENT

For all funerals held at Sacred Heart, the family has the option to hold a repast in the Parish Hall after the funeral and interment.

 


GOLDEN AGE

CONTACT PERSON – Wanda Thompson

The Golden Age Group was started in 2000 by Father Larry LeDuff-Gutierrez.  The group was formed to enhance the life of seniors 50+ years of age through programs, intellectual support, fun, travel, fellowshipping, entertainment, prayer, spirituality and other opportunities to give to the community.  The group meets every third Monday of the month in the Sacristy at 6:00 pm.  We turn out twice a year, in April and November on the first Sunday of the month. We help the needy and the Hospitality Center at Christmas. The group is open to all denominations.  Our object is to offer a variety of enjoyable and interesting activities for all seniors.

 


HOSPITALITY

CONTACT PERSON – Donnetta Jackson

We welcome visitors to our mass celebrations on Saturday and Sunday.  We present them with prayer cards and invite them to come and worship with us again.  We prepare and serve food for our parishioners and guests on special occasions.

 


LEGION OF MARY

CONTACT PERSON – Earline Smith

The Legion of Mary is group of Catholic men and women whose object is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active cooperation, under ecclesiastical guidance, in Mary's and the Church's work of crushing the head of the serpent and advancing the reign of Christ.  The devotional outlook of the Legion is reflected in its prayers.  The Legion is built upon a profound faith in God and in the love he bears his children.  Under God, the Legion is built upon devotion to Mary "that ineffable miracle of the Most High."  The Legion aims to bring Mary to the world as the infallible means of winning the world to Jesus. 

The Legion of Mary meets every Thursday at 9:00 am in the Sacristy.  Legion members go out into the community and visit the sick in their homes, go to the hospitals, visit nursing homes, visit the prisons and other works in the community.

 


ROSARY GROUP

This is a group of our devoted parishioners who leads our parish community in praying the Rosary. As a parish we come 30 minutes to say the Rosary before the Mass begins. This is both for weekends and weekdays. They help us also during some other Marian celebrations like May Devotion and October Devotion. Their role reminds us that we should always seek to be in the company of Our Holy Mother Mary both in the Church and in our homes.

 

 
USHERS

CONTACT PERSON – Dudley Champ

Our Parish Ushers help maintain peace and order during Liturgy in the church. They welcome people as they arrive, and offer them seats. They minister to the congregation during Mass. They are there for all celebrations including funerals. They mentor youths who now serve on the fourth Sunday of every month.

 


HEALTH COMMITTEE

CONTACT PERSON – Delphia Smith 

The Sacred Heart Health and Wellness Committee is a motivated group of nurses and social workers.  We meet every other month on the second Sunday after mass.  The group's mission is to assist with the health and safety needs of it's parishioners by providing education.  The education is provided through a variety of avenues such as through the group's members or outside sources.  The overall goal of the group is to ensure that our parishioners have the knowledge, tools and resources to make informative decisions regarding the safety and well being of their mind, body and soul.
